Six Books To Read When You Need An Escape

Need an escape? I sure do. Two weeks ago I was trying to find reasons to call in sick to work, and now I would give anything to get up early and spend my day sitting on tiny chairs in an elementary school classroom. When the days get long and the hours seem to never pass, I always turn to my books. Right now, being quarantined inside my house, I'm looking for stories that will draw me in and take me to another place. If  you're looking for the same, you're in luck! I've compiled a list of six books to read when you just really need to get out. (Listed in no particular order).

1. The Secret Letter, by Debbie Rix
Set in WWII, two teenage girls on opposite sides of the war are linked forever when one of them is faced with an impossible decision. In Germany, Magda struggles to find her place in a war that she desperately wants to end. In England, Imogen is torn from her family and relies on letters to keep her close to her loved ones. A plane crash intertwines their fates in ways no one thought possible

2. The Paper Magician, by Charlie N. Holmberg
Looking for a series? This series begins with Ceony Twill, a graduate of Tagis Praff School for the Magically Inclined. Ceony's dreams seem to be stopped short when she is told that the only magic available to her is paper, the least popular and seemingly least useful of magics. Can the mysterious Magician Thane convince her that paper has power? Or will she lose her teacher and her chance to learn magic forever?

3.  Heartless by Marissa Meyer
Catherine is one of the most desired girls in Wonderland, even catching the eye of the unmarried King of Hearts, but that isn't what she wants. She dreams of opening a bakery with her best friend, but can such dreams come true? When Catherine meets Jest, the new court jester, she feels the pull of a new dream. Can she escape the demands of her parents and the entire kingdom to achieve her dreams of happiness and true love? A prequel to Alice's Adventures In Wonderland.

4. Dreamland by Nancy Bilyeau

Dreamland by Nancy Bilyeau
The year is 1911 and heiress Peggy Batternburg is spending her summer in an opulent hotel just down the road from America's Playground: Coney Island. Desperate to escape her pompous and smothering family, Peggy finds herself walking the boardwalk of Dreamland. There she finds freedom, love, and a murder mystery to be solved. Can she solve the case and save her love from the false charges laid against him before the summer ends?

5. Sea Witch by Sarah Henning

Amazon.com: Sea Witch (9780062438775): Henning, Sarah: Books
Ever since her best friend Anna died, Evie has been an outcast. She spends her days walking the pier, using her forbidden magic to protect the ships and sailors of town. When a girl with an uncanny resemblance to her lost friend appears on shore, Evie feels like she may have a chance at a happy ending after all. When she learns of the harsh extenuating circumstances surrounding her new friends appearance, she must decide if she should risk it all to keep her, or must she lose her a second time? A prequel to The Little Mermaid.

6. Daughters Of The Lake by Wendy Webb

Daughters of the Lake by Wendy Webb
Kate Granger retreats to her parents home on Lake Superior to pull herself together after the end of her marriage, but instead she is roped into a murder mystery a century old. When the bodies of a woman and baby wash up on shore the investigation seems to hit a dead end, until Kate sees the bodies and realizes that she knows them. She's seen them in her dreams. Kate must navigate her dreams and a confusing family history to bring peace to this century old victim.

Introduction

Hello friends! I am so excited to get started on this blog. I want to start out by introducing myself and explaining a little of what I plan to do with this blog. My name is Hannah. I live on the island of Oahu, which is one of the Hawaiian islands. I am originally from Utah, but moved here a little over a year ago. I have been married to my prince charming for four years and together we have our fur baby, Momo. Momo is a black lab/ Australian shepherd mix who is almost two years old. In my free time I read, write, play with my dog, and do some amateur embroidery. I have loved reading since about second grade, when I was introduced to the wonderful world of Harry Potter. My love has only grown since then. At the beginning of 2020 I made a resolution to read 150 books this year. I'm making progress on that goal, but still have a ways to go! I hope to use this blog to find like-minded readers and offer some recommendations to people looking for a new book! If you have a book you would like me to review, or a favorite genre you would like recommendations for, send me a message! I'd love to hear from you!
